Vote for us on Love a Local Business!

So, we noticed that a couple other cake people were doing this thing called "Love a Local Business". We saw it a month or so ago, but thought...we don't have time....and would we even have a chance? Well, after reviewing it again we saw that we DO have a chance! It really is LOCAL. Geared towards small business. To read more about this and to vote for us, please go here:

Or just click on the link under our description above.

A small grant would do wonders for us here at the shop. So many things could be updated and we could help the community out so much more! We give as much as we can as it is now we would only love to give more =). Something like this could do that for us.

Right now we need at least 300 votes. Can this happen? YES!!!! We are so excited and can't wait to see how many people will rally for us.

Thank you supporters!

SDC on KSN!

Sweet Designs Cakery will be featured on a short segment TONIGHT on the t.v. station KSN (channel 16). The segment will air at 6 p.m. tonight November 18, 2009.

Liz Bryant contacted us about a month ago asking if she could do a short story about the Cake Shop and how it got started. We believe the segment has to do with hobbies becoming careers. We are very excited to see what they came up with at KSN.

While they were here we hand painted a fondant piece with the KSN peacock logo. Here is a sketch of what we worked on, maybe you will see it on-air tonight!

The interview was conducted with Heather, the owner. She had a cold and didn't feel well at the time, so lets hope that doesn't show through =). And, if it does, you can watch anyway and laugh at her!

So, just look for this face and this logo and you'll have the right channel! Don't forget, 6 p.m. TONIGHT! If you can come in tomorrow and tell us that you watched the program we'll give you a free cupcake! Make sure you pay attention though, we might ask questions like, what was Heather wearing?

CupCakes for the Cure

For the entire month of October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month) Sweet Designs Cakery will be selling CupCakes for the cure of Breast Cancer. All proceeds (by this we mean every single penny) raised from the sell of Breast Cancer Cupcakes will be given to the Mount Carmel Foundation at the end of the month.

CupCakes are available in any flavor, but will be decorated in shades of pink/white with the Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon. Breast Cancer CupCakes may be ordered ahead of time by the dozen or you can come on down to the shop and pick up a few at a time.

CupCakes will be similar to this picture, but decoration will vary. You can order these adorable cups of deliciousness at $12 per dozen or come on down to the shop and pick up a single cup for $1.50.

Please, help SDC support this important cause. We will also be at the Sip & Shop October 18 where we will sell more CupCakes for the Cure. If you would like more information about the Sip & Shop, please feel free to call or send us an email! We would gladly invite you as our guest.

The money raised for our CupCakes for the Cure and the Sip & Shop can be seen in your own community. The Mobile Mammography Van is partially powered by contributions such as this, printed materials that are passed out to women in the community, and special presentations about the importance of Breast Cancer Awareness are all things that are made available through the Mount Carmel Foundation to the Pittsburg and surrounding area women.

Call today to place your order for next week, or drop in and pick up a CupCake for the Cure!

In the Spirit of Halloween: Every bite helps!

Paint the Town Red

The tradition of Paint the Town Red continued this year and we jumped on board. It was a lot of fun coming up with a window display idea and then actually doing it! Not really knowing what to expect or how it would all turn out in the end we did pretty well. Most of all we had a great time doing it. We got to support our local football team, be a part of the community and show the town our creativity.

Here are a few pictures of our decorations just in case you didn't get to see them while they were up.

This is a front view of the shop. We decided to use plastic to cover our windows so that we wouldn't make a huge mess on the sidewalk when we cleaned it off...to our surprise you could see the Sweet Designs Cakery letters through the plastic. But, it still looked okay and did the job. In the right lighting, you couldn't tell. The huge fork and piece of cake were pretty cool and helped out our theme.

We borrowed (more like bribed them with cake) a Gorilla from Miller's for our window. We had the Gorilla setting at a table with a slice of cake that had the rival team's logo on it. He was getting ready to devour the Bronchos (yes, we spelled bronchos wrong on the window). We had lighting on him so you could see better.

And on the other window our friend Justin Troutman painted this Grrrilla. A scary one! Maybe that is why we tied for 2nd place??? The judges were too frightened to give us 3rd? =)

In our division we tied for 2nd place getting beat by Sara Lorees Bridal and Formal. We tied with Everything Sew Sew and Celebrations by Lori got 3rd Place. This year was very stiff competition. It was a lot of fun to see all the different themes and ways to decorate. We didn't go as bananas as the City of Pittsburg, but maybe we will next year? By the way, Pitt State won their game on Saturday and we were there to see it. Our first PSU football game! What an overwhelming turnout of people and support. Go Pitt!
